Nonprofit Technology Projects That Changed Lives
Technology work is not always about building the next system or getting more people connected. Sometimes, it starts with a much simpler question: Are we solving the problem people are experiencing?
From community outreach during the Affordable Care Act to Project Nandi, pandemic era technology and broadband. I’ve learned that a laptop, a connection or a new system can only go so far. The real work is understanding what people need and building technology that gives them more options, stability and power.
No Wi-Fi, No Safety Net: The Life-or-Death Cost of the Digital Divide
Digital access is about more than having an internet connection. I’ve seen how unreliable service, high bills, lack of training and even past experiences with technology can shape if someone is actually able to use it.
For me, digital equity starts with a different question: Where is each person starting from? Because access only matters when people can use technology to work, learn, access services and build a more stable life.
Stop Building Tech for People. Start Building It With Them.
Technology should not be the starting point. The starting point is listening to what a community needs.
The Twin Cities Broadband Cooperative and Project Nandi reinforced something that has shaped my work for years: a platform or an internet connection can be useful, but technology cannot replace community knowledge, care or ownership. What matters is what people can do with it later.
Just things worth sharing.
